This method can work. But if one element is off, (due to a bad ground connection or other), the 
good element is pulled down to that level. The user may never know he is settling for 2nd best.

Rather than gong to that trouble, simply tune for maximum 
front to back ratio. If you get a 20+dB null off the back,
you can be sure the currents are equal and at the correct angle.
