Hi Charlie,

I don't think that insulation would have all that much of an effect on
"length", assuming here that you're referring to the velocity factor of wire
covered with insulation, vs. bare wire...

It may be urban myth, but I personally prefer to use insulated wire here on
ALL of my antennas, for two reasons:

(1) It's supposed to minimize the effect of precipitation static, i.e. snow
flakes "dis-charging" on exposed wire as it comes into contact with it (the
myth part), and,

(2) The wire is "protected" from unexpected short paths to ground in the
form of fallen branches, broken supports, etc.
