       Hmm.  Either way will work.  Sometimes a clevis, or shackle, is used
to join two end terminations, like your turnbuckle eye to the end of the
preform.  The thimble to thimble is fine since the purpose of the thimble is
to  give the guy material a constant radius and present a bigger area to
spread the tension.  K7FR probably has some additional  industry comments.
