[TowerTalk] Cushcraft 40 addon for A3 tribander

I have the 40 add-on on my cushcraft A4. It works fine, although the
bandwidth is very limited (pick CW or phone, can't have both without a
tuner). I have heard people in the past say that a full-size 40M dipole
will always outperform these add-on kits. However, in my experience the
A4 at 50' always heard a little better than 40M slopers or an allband
inverted vee with ladderline feed, apex about 48'. I believe this is
because the A4 was up in the clear. The wire antennas were 48' at their
highest point only, with the remainder of the antenna lower. At the new
QTH, I had the A4 up about 24' for a while, and at that height 40M sigs
were usually about even with a Butternut vertical mounted on a ten-foot
mast. When the tower goes up, I am considering putting a 2-el
shorty-forty over the A4, and changing the add-on kit to 30 meters.
Good luck.
