Steve, I have never modeled anything. I'll tell you what has worked for
me on 75 meters. Guess it doesn't make a lot of difference that I'm on
the east coast because the contacts are from everywhere.
When I lived in MD, I had a inverted vee at 55 feet on a 93 foot tower.
When that no longer worked well enough, I took a 75 meter dipole that had
been laying around and hooked one end at 88 feet and ran the other end to
the ground. I did this because I could not get a half sloper to work
anywhere on the tower. It turned out that it had to be placed right above
the uninsulated guy wires to have it looking at Europe. When the low end
was at about 15 feet off the ground I had to turn it and run the last 20
feet horz. to the ground,as I ran out of property. I knew the dipole was
tuned to 3.8 and I had to move the horz. end around 4 or five times
before the SWR looked right.
I worked 140 something countries between the two antennas. When I moved
to WV I put up a 54 foot crank up and was able to get a half sloper to
work. I now have 165 worked, and 154 confirmed on 75 with 34 zones worked
and 29 confirmed.
The dog leg sloper didn't look like it would work, but it did. I had a
pair of 3-500Z's feeding them.
Hope this helps you or somebody else on the reflector. Now 20 meters
almost feels like cheating........
I know 160 is tougher, but I can't play there with what I have. I tried a
160 inverted vee at 90 feet while in MD and couldn't work much with it.
