Steve, this may be a long shot, but very much the same thing happened
with my TS690S when the press-to-talk bar on the MC60A microphone
accidently got locked down while the radio was turned off (easy to do on
my crowded desk).  When the rig was turned on it worked on receive
(seems like I also recall the sensitivity seemed poor) but wouldn't xmit
until I noticed the locked PTT bar and unlocked it.  Hope yours is as
simple.
