[TowerTalk] Back On Topic -- Are These Parts OK for a Rohn 45Tower?

Let me add to this that summer-before-last I received 41 sections of 45G
direct from Rohn. I also bought several top-plates, accessory plates,
turnbuckles, etc. Of the 45G sections received I discovered that:

10 sections had a crooked sleeve on the bottom of one of the legs that I
think was welded at an angle. It was bad enough to cause serious problems
fitting to the section below it. I had to replace these sections. Rohn
claimed shipping damage and the trucking company paid up. But I know the
problem was with Rohn and not the trucking company. That's a 25% quality
problem. I have since found some more tower sections with the problem that
aren't as bad and can be used. I missed spotting these from my first
inspection.

Another section had a missing Z-brace weld. The weld was never done and it
was galvanized over. Rohn replaced this section after I sent them a photo
of the gap between the Z-brace and the leg.

The accessory plates and the flat top plates are all drilled slightly
off-center. I recently found one top plate (BPL45G) that was so far off it
was unusable. It had to be removed from a 195 foot tower and replaced. This
delayed installation of the mast and beam. I don't know yet if Rohn will
replace this. I need to call them about this today.

One of my top plates has tower-leg holes drilled slightly off. I managed to
get the bolts through anyway.

One tip. If you receive a shipment from Rohn, inspect carefully the tower
and hardware as it is unloaded. If it is damaged, refuse the damaged
portion and make the driver take it back. That way, Rohn will have to send
you a replacement. If you accept the tower, even by noting the damage on
the invoice/bill of lading, Rohn will refuse to replace it and tell you to
make a claim with the trucking company.

Rohn needs a serious competitor to get them back on-track with their
quality and customer service.
