For a 300 foot run at 30 Mhz, the off-the-shelf options look something
like this:
LMR-400 2.1 dB loss for $159.
LMR-600 1.26 dB loss for $294.
LMR-900 .71 dB loss for $807.
Now the dollars per dB:
LMR-400 to 600, $161 per dB.
LMR-600 to 900, $933 per dB.
Remember that these dB's are only for Transmitting, not Receiving.
Now you can make the decision based on where you are in the
dB per dollar world. If you are not already running 1500 watts
output, you would probably be better off buying a big amplifier,
rather than stepping up to LMR-900. It's probably worth the
extra $135 to step up to LMR-600 though.
I know some guys who are spending about $5000 per db, so it's up to
you!
