I put up a KT34xa in about 1980. Two years later, the plastic
trap insulators had all deteriorated because of UV. One of the
capacitors shorted, causing a high swr, which caused the original
balun to fail. When I ordered a replacement from KLM, I was told
that the new balun was more rugged than the original, had more
cores, and could handle higher power. After replacing the balun
and insulators in about 1982, the antenna has been up continuously
ever since, with zero maintenance. I think both of those baluns
are probably ok, but one is probably the older design. The old
one handled a kw ok, until the swr went bananas from another
cause.
