As I recall the error was feedpoint connection error. I'm sure we 
could do better today, with modern equipment. But back then 
running a model on 440 MHz to resolve fraction of a dB was 
unwise. 

The large loop improved ability to have a good feed system 
compared to a dipole driven element.

Ever try to do a dipole feedpoint on 440 MHz (the freq they used) 
with regular size coaxial cables?
