Thanks to all who responded to my plea. The problem has been basically solved
but I must say I was amazed at the outpouring of support from all of you. Thank you.
First, to answer the questions you raised that I should have included in my original msg.
I am in Austin TX.
The tower is 120 feet of Rohn 55 with a C31XR just at the top and a Cushcraft shortie 40
on a mast 10 feet above that.
The tower has a gate designed by Custom Metalworks mounted at 70 feet
with another Cushcraft shortie 40 at 80 feet and an _intended_ twin
C31XR at 70 feet. I'm trying to replace the 70 foot C31XR with a C3E.
The gate in question was designed by my installer Paul Nyland of Custom Metalworks in OR
who is a real expert on towers. However, none of us plus a few other knowledgable
persons realized that the C31XR has just too much aluminum in the center, in particular
a 10 and a 15 meter director straddling the mounting point with not enough room to
swing around a Rohn 55 tower.
Paul was able to contact his friend Tom the ceo of Force 12 (Paul is a dealer)
and a C3E is being shipped out to me to arrive Friday. When I issued my plea
several well known tower/antenna distributors told me it would be up to 4 weeks to
get one of the popular C3 antennas through the normal channels.
Also, Tom from Force 12 has a possible solution involving "stretching" the boom in the center
which he has done before that will give more free space to work with a gate around a Rohn 45/55
so it is possible that my C31XR will fly again.
To the two persons who suggested TIC rings (new to me but another possible solution)
I intend to follow up with you.
That would be an excellent solution. First I want to see how the C3 plays with the C31XR.
I'm not sure the C31 is for sale until I see whether it is feasable to either stretch it or use a TIC ring.
Again, my thanks to all of you. I'll be on the air with something soon.
