[TowerTalk] System design for DX

Jari OH3BU raised a question re tradeoffs between antenna heights, beams etc.
This issue was addressed in what should have been recognised as a classic
series of articles in QST by ?Rothwell in QST in the 1960s (perhaps someone
will help out with more precise documentation) called 'Station Design for
DX'. The theme was taken up less definitively in RSGB 'Radio Communication'
a few years back.

Worth traversing the whole issue again. At present costs, tradeoffs between
eg: money invested in a linear amp vs antenna height vs antenna boom length etc.

BTW: At ZL1ZLD had the opportunity to compare a 20m dipole hidden around
corner of steel frame building from better than average oriental 3 el trap
tribander pointing in same direction. Dipole fwd gain marginally better....
