I may be dating myself but back in the 60's all the new houses we built/sold
had galvanized gutters.
We sold them unpainted as it took a year of weathering, and then a wash with
vinegar solution before they would hold paint.
Of course all the outside paint in those days was oil-based.

Still a few new owners would ignore our advice and then complain to us about
the peeling paint.
