The Danish inventor Valdemar Poulsen was transmitting wireless music in
Copenhagen in the late 1800's. He invented the steel band tape recorder and
set up several transmitting stations on the east coast of the US and Canada
for long distance communication. There are still remnants of one of his
transmitter sites near Miramichi City in New Brunswick. Some got more
publicity than others, that's all.

I was under the impression that the American Dentist, Mahlom Loomis was the
real inventor of radio. He supposedly sent spark messages between two
distant hilltops on about 160 meters. This was in 1866. He also made his
work known to Congress and took out patents. This was long before Marconi
was privileged to step foot on American soil. Didn't congress strip the US
patents from Marconi in the early 1940's?? Someone correct me if I got this
all wrong. This guy was probably the very first Ham.
