I recall several years ago that W0ZV did a 20M single band
effort in a CQ WW CW contest using a KLM 20M monobander.

The next year he did the same thing using a KT34XA.  His
multiplier went up by 10 or 15 countries.  I often wondered
if this wasn't due to having LESS  F/B and therefore hearing
multipliers off the back of the antenna.

When I replaced an ice-damaged 2L QUAD with a TH7, I
immediately noticed I no longer heard Pacific stations
when beaming Africa and had to switch to a West antenna
to look for VK/ZL/ KH etc.  

Personally, I prefer having a LOW (10 dB) F/B antenna for
multiplier hunting in contests.  2L Yagi's and 2L Quads
make great searching antennas.
