[TowerTalk] CCRs and high-tension lines

Alan,

I used to operate Field Day several consecutive years from a site that

included 115KV lines feeding a manufacturing plant substation. My antenna

was within 200 ft of the power transmission lines and I never had a noise

problem. Now, the lines were fairly new at the time (about 5 years old) which

means the substation equipment and insulation system were in good repair.

If you have a mobile HF rig, you might want to check out the RF environment

around your lines. Consider though, that even if the bands are quiet near the

lines now, this could change with time.

Good Luck,

Mike, WA4BPJ
