Down the street a Rohn HDBX48 has been up for at least five years. Tower
has
just recently been taken down and now stands in driveway, six 8 foot
sections, with
a thrust bearing of some sort plus a rotor mount plate about 3 feet below
(looks
bent to me, like it was forced into place). They want $675 for this thing
when the
list is $589. So a slight renegotiation of the price may be in the making.
But first, I would like (direct to me please) comments on this tower from
those
who know. I have a 75x90 backyard devoted entirely to the "antenna farm",
the only unpleasant point is a 7-12 kv distribution line (hot side on my
side) runs
parallel to the 90 foot length of the backyard.
My questions are:
How difficult is it to erect this tower?
Does anyone have a Gpole design for this tower that is simple?
How do you align this tower for true vertical during installation?
How unpleasant is climbing this tower?
Will it support a C3D or C4D ...boom 18'
Does the rotor plate withstand the loads?
What would be a reasonable price for this tower?
Does Rohn make it any more ? (don't see it on their Wpage)
What base constuction is recommended?
What is the windloading at 70 and 100 mph?
What rotor would you recommend for the C3/4D's on this tower?
I have always worked with wire and no towers. With this small lot I am now
constrained to use, I would like to consider a plain vanilla 50footer or so
with
a simple yagi (C4D if possible) ...
Fully realize this is no big deal and is dullsville for most of you, but in
my present
condition it would be a great improvment ... having spent many many hours
as
guest op at some of the biggy big guns in my life, I know what REAL antenna
farms look like and can do ... but I have never been able to venture there
on
my own ... now I would like to become a member of the backyard bunch!
Thank you in advance .... de Dave NC7W Brigham, UT (x-w0mhs)
