[TowerTalk] TV Antenna's on 6 meters

Eric,

I've tried it a couple of times with two different antennas (I'm not
active on six, however). Remember:

1. Consumer VHF TV antennas are log periodics. Their Z is about 300 ohms,
not 75--use a 4:1 balun! The balun you have installed "upstairs" is
undoubtedly only good for QRP.

2. TV Log periodic antenna performance on Ch. 2 is noticeably worse than
for Ch. 3 or 4--I think the antennas I've used skimp on aluminum and
really resonate higher than 56MHz. So 6m performance will undoubtedly be
poorer than with a properly sized log.

3. When I installed my TV antennas, I put a HPF right after the balun up
on the mast. If you did likewise, make sure it will pass 50MHz without
overheating.

An ancient bowtie(?) TV antenna worked quite well for me (relatively
speaking, of course), and matched at 51MHz without problem. This is the
kind that looks like a double-X, without the ends connected as in a true
bowtie.
