[TowerTalk] Cell phone radiation to the head

Hi Ted,
Mobile phones are limited to 1 watt max output for the digital modes and to
600 mW for AMPS mode. These levels may be reduced by command from the cell
sites to the minimum level needed for good communications.

The amount of energy absorbed by tissue in the head is referred to as SAR
(specific absorption ratio). SAR is commonly misidentified by the media as
specifically absorbed radiation...they use the "R" word to scare people.
Federal regs set the maximum SAR level at 1.6 mW/G of tissue and is
generally measured with the phone set to maximum power output. SAR levels
will vary from one phone to the next due to design differences and battery
condition... does it have a whip antenna, a patch antenna, is the battery
fully charged, etc..

Its a good bet that the SAR measurements included with phone documentation
will be misinterpeted by the media and marketing/sales people to mean that
the lower the SAR the safer the phone is.

To date, billions of dollars have been spent in the U.S., europe...the
entire world on research into possible health dangers of mobile phones and
NO links have been found.
