[TowerTalk] Was Advice - now crank-ups

I've read a lot of crank up tower bashing comments lately, but my own
experience using crank up towers has been totally positive. I own 2 Tri-EX
LM-354 crank-up towers. Tower #1 was purchased and installed in August of
1968. It's held various beams over the years including a 4el 20 mtr
monobander and currently a 5 el Telrex Tribander. This 54 ft tower is on a
40 ft wide lot. Tower #2 (same model) is at a different location, 120 ft
wide suburban lot installed in October of 1979. Various antennas have been
on this tower but since 1982 this tower has supported a KT34XA and various
vhf antennas. To date I've had zero trouble with either tower. I can tilt
over the towers with the tilt over accessory. I do know this, any tower that
would require ME climbing to any height above 10 foot would be extremely
dangerous for ME. I'm not a climber, never will be. Crank up towers have
allowed me to be modestly competitive as a dxer / contester for over 30
years. Crank ups aren't the only antenna support alternative, but for ME, it
hasn't been a bad choice. Noll W9RN
