[TowerTalk] tailtwister problem

I have a T2X with an analogue control box. When the antenna rotators the
indicator needle works fine from South through East to North. From North
through West  the  indicator needle fluctuates wildly - in fact it can
fluctuate all the way to South (through East). I have opened the rotator
up and when I manually rotate the potentiometer the indicator moves
smoothly in all directions. However, when I put the rotator casing back
on the problem reappears. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Also
if I rotate the rotator back and forth a few times the brake seleniod
seems to cease up. I leave the controls alone for a couple of minutes
the brake will release and the rotator will turn again.  I do not know
if this is a related problem. Could it be in the control box?
Suggestions please.
