I had up a KLM stack in 1980 consisting of the 6 element 10, 5 el 15 and 5
el 20 KLM Big sticks. With the wife and neighbors
complaining I switched to the KT34X (now XA). I did not see much
difference, but I could sleep at night not worrying about the tower.
The weak link in the KT34XA is 15 meters and I understand M2 has improved 15
meter performance the most. The TH6/TH7 is strongest on 15. If you have
the tower stacking two 34/36XA's makes a great stack as N8TR and K7RI et al
have found. The only problem is that I am chasing countries on 17 and 12
and KLM and now M2 have no plans for adding those bands. Several have had
good luck with the Sommer XP80 (KM1E, N4VZ). The problem is the 34/36XA
and the XP80 require expert assembly and plenty of maintenance. can't speak
for the other (Bencher, Cushcraft) tri-banders. Right now the C31XR (7 el
10, 4 el 15, 3 el 20) is filling the void.
