Had same problem a few years back - a lightnin' strike had caused an open
about half way around the pot...had trouble bridging the "gap" at first but
after a lot of scraping, the wire was able to take solder...suspect the wire
used for that is some sort of alloy as its job is being rubbed all the
time...doubt its "plain copper"
