Hello Ian & the group,
The best thing I've seen so far for waterproofing coaxial connectors is a
layer of Scotch 70 silicon based rubber tape followed by a layer of Scotch
88. The 70 is removable with no fuss, but will not come off by itself. The
88 is simply a protective layer for the 70.
I used this combination on 6-8 silver plated connectors on my tower top
four years ago. When I removed the two layers this spring during an antenna
project, they were as bright as new; no discoloration at all.

There was a man at Dayton Hamvention (Dayton, Ohio) selling the Scotch 70
this year...I managed to stock up on the tape. It is in the Scotch-3m
catalog at
http://www.3m.com/elpd/pdfs/elpdcat.pdf - size 8784.2K
The file is HUGE...8.8 Mb...
