[TowerTalk] 4 Way Guying

Disagree ... somewhat correct, but .. depending on physical location of the
tower, small acreage, like a lot of hams have ... 4 is the way to go, if
you have a short tower and a small lot ... the load on a leg is so minimal
under most circumstances that that is not a factor. It is QUITE important
to remember that the "lift" on the windward side of the tower is equal to
the "downforce" on the leeward side ...........when it comes to Rohn 25,
most hams never come near the stress that would create an "overstress" on
that leg ... more likely a problem would come from a torque deal, where the
tower goes into oscillation .. ???? and, 50% guying worky worky just fine,
unless you are in Kansas! For the record, Rohn tower stress
specifications, are, by design, @ 50% of "real world" --just FYI ... If you
are at maximum heights, loads, etc...tower2sell is right.

the tower apex, you have one guy wire supporting the tower. With three way
you have the wind on three wires and with four way guying, wind is on four
wires. You have greatly increased your wind area with no increase in
strength.

having it designed by an engineer.

capacity due to the beam-column action or a brace overload due to excessive
shear. The total column capacity is very rarely a design concern.
