Gentleman, Would increasing the boom length of a 2 ele. 5 band
quad from 8' to 12' be worthwhile? I'm thinking this would increase gain &
f/b
curves. Just looking for that extra punch on 17 & 20 meters.

I've run a bunch of patterns and there is an advantage of having more
than .125WL in spacing in gain and most F/B. A friend insists he can tell
the difference on the air. It's better on the sides and back. The vertical
pattern is a bit sharper and will be beneficial. I plan to use around
.14-.15 WL as I got some real deep nulls in the rear over 50 dB. To make use
of it over the band you will need a variable Xc in the reflector driven by a
selsyn at the mast. k7gco.
