[TowerTalk] More single elevated radial

During ON4UN's "pre-Dayton" Radial presentation in Fort Mill, SC, south
of Charlotte, NC, last week, John told the group he wanted the single
elevated radial for each of the 4-Square verticals, to permit higher
angle signals in order to work the close in European countries as
multipliers in major contests. Adding more radials would lower the
takeoff angle, making his transmit signal weaker in Europe.

Earlier that afternoon, prior to the meeting, I specifically asked John
to mention the 160 meter vertical's 250 radials that the 80m 4-Square
certainly sees, at + - 17 feet above those radials, in ths and future
presentations. Unfortunately, many readers of his 1994 and 2000 editions
books see the diagram only, or do not consider the 250 radials for the
160 vertical as having an impact on the 80m array, and falsely believe a
4-Square will perform properly with one elevated radial per vertical.

Nothing can replace radials in vertical arrays for proper low angle
performance. And for those with dipole arrays supported from a single
tower, conecting a few radials to the tower legs under each dipole, will
enhace its performance as well.
