[TowerTalk] Tailtwister Pot disengaged?

During the CQWW this past weekend, I noticed a large number
of VK's answering my cq's, while I thought I was beaming
toward Japan. I took a look at the antenna, and it was about
40 degrees CCW of the indicated heading! The mast is pinned
to the rotator, and all the antennas and struts on the mast
were still lined up.

Later, after rotating the antenna some more, the indicator
remained at full scale (South), no matter which way the antenna
was actually pointing. Pot resistance readings were all normal,
with the pot wiper to ground measurement indicating that the
wiper was physically positioned at the high end of the pot.

After giving this some thought, I surmised that perhaps the
little ears on the feedback pot had somehow gotten disengaged
from the slot on the upper housing. I then rotated the antenna all
the way into the clockwise stop, and now the indicator works
fb! Is it plausible that I jammed the ears back into the slot?
Anybody ever hear of this happening?
