Ah HA! This sounds like the tight-new-Orion problem! :)
I forget the particular set-up parameter, but one of them is to set the
"ramp up" speed. At one end of its range the rotor starts turning
slowly and then increases until it reaches its regular rotation speed.
At the other end of the range the rotor starts abruptly and immediately
begins moving at full speed.
The default is for the rotor to start slowly and "ramp up." When my
Orion was new this was problematic until things wore in a bit. As a
test, set this parameter to "start abruptly" and see if it operates as
you would expect. If so, set this parameter at some mid-range setting
where the rotor operates reliably and leave it there for a while to
break in. After a month or two I was able to reset this back to the
"slow ramp-up" setting.
