[TowerTalk] Guys:

This is true for any practical number of guy wire sets...however, it may NOT
be true for towers that are designed to be freestanding. Towers like Rohn 25,
45, 55 rely on column strength of the tower members and since guy wires cause
force vectors to be "downward", guy wires are appropriate. Freestanding towers
are designed to withstand lateral forces in addition to some downward force but
the primary strength of the tower is not column strength. Use Steve's
advise...check with the manufacturer or a competent mechanical/structural
engineer before adding guys to a tower that is designed to be freestanding. 73
