Aloha gang,
Well, though the event is now about a year ago,
the photos of the crane removing the old and
reinstalling the new crank-up tower are now
posted. There are some 20+ photos, so called
"thumbnails"; you can click for a bigger
view plus a caption beneath for added info.
At the bottom are a couple of recent pic's
of the operating site here in the shack (ignore
that odd appearing fellow!).
Photo site for KH7M is at:
http://www.karc.net/Activities/Photokh7m.htm
Thanks to John Martin, WH7EY, for the web site
effort, and again to Jim Pilgrim, WH6FG, for the high work
atop the ladder leaning (tied) to the tower. Of course,
also to Larry Conklin who donated not only his time,
but also his crane and rigging gear on a Saturday
afternoon to accomplish this job! More about Larry
within the caption below the photo of him on his
crane rig.
The photos show one Island of Kauai amateur's
antenna and QTH set up. Perhaps of some interest
to others considering the use of a crank up tower.
Antenna is a Force 12 C4; operates as it should,
with many "new ones" worked in the last year. BTW,
the antenna is as repaired following the boom breaking
when the cable of the original 550 broke (was rusted
through on the winch) after about 8 years. Boom was
repaired via a splice job; boom sheared clean just
aft of the mounting plate when the tower collapsed
after the cable break. Fate of the "old" tower is also
shown; promoted to portable use for our Club Field
Day and other remote operation; thanks to Russ,
NH6B, for his work building the new trailer/crank up
and the repair to the original tower set up for the Club
station, KH6E. Only a portion of the original 550 is
used.
73, Jim, KH7M
