How about one of these ideas :
1/ Put up a mast with a dummy TV aerial on the top; but in fact the mast is
insulated from the building and you tune it up as a vertical.
2/Be patriotic, and put up a nice flagpole with the Stars and Stripes on it;
but in fact the flagpole is painted aluminium, and is used as a vertical.
3/Use enamelled transformer wire as a end-fed long wire, and elastic bands
as insulators. At 20' up in the air its practically invisible. It might
need replacing every now and then due to wind or bird-strikes, but its cheap
enough not to worry. Drill a 1/8th hole in the window frame as a lead-in,
and match it against radials under the carpet.
4/Pin aluminium cooking-foil all around your attic, and load up that with
ATU
as usual. I used to do this in a teenager's bedroom (mine, sometime ago!)
and shine lights on it for extra effect !
5/If all else fails, tune up the bed-springs....HI
