I agree with N8JF's response.  I forgot to mention that I have totally
separate networks (all shielded Cat 5 cable) for the phones and my LAN.
My DSL service is not voice over IP like N8JF describes.  My service uses
a dedicated copper pair all the way back to the phone exchange and from
there goes on fiber optic cable to my ISP.

Never use an unused pair of a 10 or 100 Base T network Cat 5 cable to
carry analog voice signals.  It won't work due to the cross-talk.
