The bandwidth wouldn't "still likely to be narrow", it *would* be narrower.

Sometimes the wackey short antenna/ladder line/tuner combinations guys are
using are only usable *because* of loss.  If everything in the system was
lossless, they would have to stick to slow-speed cw.  The bandwidth would
be too narrow for SSB.
