Eric,
In as much as turning the C3SS causes variation in VSWR, there is a very
high probability of destructive interaction between the C3SS and something
conductive nearby. Some probabilities include house wiring, guy wires,
drain spouting other antennas or anything that can conduct RF.
A solution is to raise the antenna even if just a few feet as this can often
reduce the harmful interaction. The C3SS is not any more susceptible to
this problem than any other efficient antenna using full size or loaded
elements.
