[TowerTalk] 55G for 21 SQ foot Antenna?

Hi Mike,
I tried to stir up some interest on this reflector some time ago about those
confusing ratings for Rohn 55 and other tower typs as well. Nobody seemed
interested at the time . . . Those huge ratings are on towers that are used
in the TVRO application (TV Receive Only). This means they are intended to
hold up lots of little TV antennas and/or dish antennas. There is absolutely
NOTHING said about typical ham antennas or any antenna with any significant
boom length in the "MS" section of the Rohn catalog.
But to answer your real question which is how can you really find out what this
tower will support, the answer is still the same as it has always been . . .
hire a PE (Professional Engineer) to calculate it for you.
