Hi Mike,
When you get to reading the material available on the net you will find that
a well grounded tower or structure offering a cone of protection is often
hit and simply dissipates the strike with no or little damage.
As my contractor stood on my roof and explained to me why there was a crack
big enough to put your hand in and brick pieces all over the roof, I was
also looking up overhead at my Telrex and rotatable dipole, guys not 10 feet
away, and tower only about 25 feet away and asked why it didn't hit the
tower. He said it probably did, but it dissipated what hit it and the
bricks in the chimney with a layer of carbon on the inside couldn't, heated
up and shattered. Several masons confirmed that it happens all the time.
As for her, I guess I would tell her that "Yep, and every second you stand
outside complaining is a greater chance that it will get you!" or you could
send flowers!:)
