hi Ed - Gladiator used to sell 1/8 wave shortened radials, using a single
coil at the base. They are out of business, though I understand their
stuff worked pretty well.

Buy the ON4UN low band DX book - best investment you could make. There
is a LOT of material in there on verticals and radials. I am setting
out to do the same as you, and I found this book to be the 'meatiest'
one on the subject.
