Hello Val...the connector on the back of the 5400B is used for computer
controlled activation, not the normal RS-232 connector, but rather a
connector that matches outboard devices such as the Kansas City Tracker
(the most common) Fodtrack or Uni-trac that I use. Fodtrack was featured
in CQ VHF Magazine in December 98, if you are looking for a cheapie
controller interface. Somewhere in my shack I have the pin out for the
connector if you need.......So you are correct, it is for computer control
but a little different from what you normally see. the connector is not a
standard 8 Pin Din so be careful if you try to use one (they look almost
identical but they are different) so check it out carefully or you will
damage the female on the control unit. The pin out is critical so be
sensitive to that aspect. The male connector is available from Yaesu parts
or hamfests, swap meets if you can identify the connector....the center pin
on the connector is in a different location compared to a normal 8 pin Din.
