I've used a 1026 extensively on 40m over the past few years,
with phased 40m verticals, and a dipole. Sometimes used the
dipole for the "noise" antenna, other times 1 vertical for the
noise ant, the other for tx. It gives you the ability to rx off of
2 antennas, and tx'ing on 1.

Despite the caveats in Doug DeMaw's 1996 "QRN Squasher" articles,
and MFJ's own words in the manual, I have found that the 1026
does indeed do a fine job of attenuating lightning static bursts.
One needs to be really familiar with the units' adjustment. It sometimes
takes a subtle turn of a phase knob, or the gain pot of one of the
antennas to achieve good results. I also found that it's best to throw
away the built in noise antenna (only the 1026 - the 1025 does not
have this feature), and strive for a noise antenna that is close in
peformance to your tx antenna.

I'll leave it to those more knowledgable to figure out the details.
But the unit does work fine for me on 40 on those nights when
you otherwise have to take 2 Excedrin Migraines before listening.
