For center beefing up of a 3" irrigation tubing boom, there is an aluminum 
pipe of some kind I've found at surplus places that telescopes inside nicely 
and is about 1/4" wall--perfect.  It's heavier than needed for splicies.  If 
it's in surplus it is the industrial supply houses for may sizes--take your 
calipers.  k7gco
