Another way of making spacers is to cut 6" birch dowels and drill each end.

Boil the dowels in a pot of paraffin on a camp stove outside. Use a double 
boiler. DO NOT DO IT IN THE kitchen: two reasons it is messy and there is a 
fire hazard.

After a good while, your dowels will be impregnated with wax and will stand 
up to the weather quite nicely!

Two other issues:

1)	I get the daily summaries. It's a pain to scroll through answers to 
questions posed in long messages. Why not leave the salient point and then 
delete the rest of the message.

2)	I left tower talk a few years ago when some folks got nasty. I don't 
have time for stuff like that. Can we try to be civil?

Honestly, I learn so much from all the experience here on TT, I'd hate to 
leave again.
