Steve, FYI, you can make a 100% waterproof joint that's easily removable,
and leaves the connectors clean by using Silicone Tape. The stuff "heals" to
itself and is waterproof after a few minutes. Unfortunately it's soft and
damages easily, but this can be overcome with a few wraps of Scotch 33+ over
the top, and then a couple of light sprays with Krylon Clear. After that
treatment you can put the joint in a waterfilled manhole ( and I did, many
times at work).
