Most soldering guns simply do not have enough mass for reliable heating in
the cold and wind.  I have several large soldering irons from my grandpa's
toolbox.  But any shop with plumbing supplies will have them in several
different sizes and heat ranges.  Check for a selection of tips or you may
have to file a big one down.  I also saw several up at the Grayslake Hamfest
today, dirt cheap too.  You get that big hunk of metal hot on one of those
big irons and you can laugh at the cold and wind.  My favorite is an
American Beauty, I think it's 150w but might be 200w.
