[TowerTalk] New book announcements

I have had a subscription to Antenna X and I consider some of the
materials presented in it of excellent quality; some of it has been
amusing; and if you put three Hams in one room and asked them about any
particular antenna, you would have probably three different opinions!!!
All probably perfectly valid, but just a different perception of the
same thing. I have enjoyed Tower Talk tremendously and there has been a
few crackpot ideas carried on across this reflector too; but I don't
necessarily paint this reflector, Tower Talk, with the same brush. Take
the subject of SWR -- and before World War II, it wasn't even seriously
considered as part of the design of wire antennas. This statement might
be considered controversial too, but if you read the early articles,
there was no mention of it. Times change; ideas change; technology
changes. And what was the nature of amateur radio, but experimentation,
which still continues today in antenna design. Besides, we would all
love to have a highly efficient antenna four feet high, that would work
all the bands! :-) Gene. K2QWD
