Leave us not forget that one of the reasons for putting up a high support to
start with is to also have a place to hang wires as high as possible. My
C3XL is at 82'. I wouldn't want it any lower because it would interfere with
my wire stuff for 40-160. It's also at 82' because I only have an 80' tower.
It works so well I find it hard to believe it would consistently work better
on the average (considering all times, seasons, and prop conditions) at a
lower height. If I had decided on a 120' tower, believe me the C3XL would be
at 122 feet, varied opinions notwithstanding. :-) I'd like to someday add a
small tribander at about 45' with an either/or switch to play with just for
the heck of it, but the basic setup works perfectly for me and my particular
operating habits. It also beats the socks off the tribander I had before, at
35 feet! I also am pretty sure that the Phillystran guys are responsible for
much of the excellent performance I get, particularly with the wires, which
had to be strung through the guys in any case. Less RF bouncing around near
the tower has to be a good thing.
