BRIEFLY: Can anybody point me to a source for prefabricated
non-metallic guys? I'm looking for short guys to insulate a
tower from the metal guys.
BACKGROUND: My second hand tower came with METAL guys already to go
for guying 100' of Rohn 45 at four levels. These guys have 3/4 inch
thimbles at the top and an eye-eye turnbuckle at the lower end.
The tower uses GA45G torque bars. However, I would like to insulate
the tower from the metal guys so that I can disconnect cables and
grounding and use the tower on 1.8 MHz and 136 kHz as a top loaded
(C31XR tribander as a "top hat") series fed vertical.
THE PLAN is to add 60 feet of Phillystran (now on site) to the top guys.
Then purchase short (maybe 5 or 10 feet) guys for use on the lower
three levels. These short guy pieces would go between the bolt on
the GA45G torque bar and the 3/4 inch thimble.
I could make the needed short guys with Phillystran and "Big grips" that
I already have. Except, I would like to use ends that are no longer
than 12" so that with only perhaps 4' of Phillystran I could still reach
the far end for any maintenance. (My backup is to forget about trying
to keep the short guy piece within reach and go with Philly' and
Big Grips.) Some decade or more ago, I saw an advertisement for
made-to-order guys but darned if I can find a source now.
Thanks for any help. 73, Dick Wilder, K3DI Arnold, MD
