In some cases, the "willingness" of the amplifier to work into a somewhat 
elevated SWR may be an issue (I think the Alpha 87A has this 
problem).  Otherwise Bruce is totally right -- for example, I run my SB-220 
into my 80m array, which is cut for CW, in the 75 phone band without any 
difficulty, even though the SWR is around 3:1.  There is something to be 
said for old, forgiving technology.
