Thirdly, "Cuming" as in "Emerson and Cuming" has no "s" either.

Emerson and Cuming had a number of products with "ecco" in the name.
Their product line has changed quite a bit since I did business with
them ~40 years ago and it could be that eccostrip has been discontinued.
I recall a product called "stripvar", possibly made by General Cement,
that would easily remove formvar although it hasn't been available for
many years (I suspect that EPA/OSHA may have had something to do with
that--it was pretty nasty stuff).
