[BULK] - Re: [TowerTalk] PL-259 vs N

Hi Kelly,

Maybe, but in general this has not been a problem. The problem is that
because of the blind mate, you just can't see if the assembly is going
together properly. 100% hipot testing weeds out potential problems and
mechanical damage, if it occurs, is obvious by visual inspection.

Andros, however, is a screw machining company primarily and I don't believe
they even possess RF test equipment, so although they make nice mechanical
stuff (I have no complaints about quality, my only complaint involves the
design!), I wouldn't put them in the same league as an RF house like
Amphenol, Kings, Trompeter, et al.

The 2-pc Ns I use by the bushel are used primarily at baseband video,
relatively low frequencies, so if they don't perform well at 3 GHz it's of
no importance. I have swept a couple of cable assemblies made using these
connectors (at home) and they were good up through 440 MHz...at 1.2 GHz,
they don't perform as well as standard military 5 or 6-piece type Ns like
UG21D or UG21B...

Sounds like the 'blind mate' is also inviting future
conductivity problems as well.
